By Subway:
The best way to travel in the city is by subway (view subway map). The fare is $2.25 and includes any transfers. If you expect to travel alot throughout the city, it would be wise to invest in a Metrocard, which will enable you to avoid long lines at token booths and save money (view Metrocard options).

Take the A train (express) to 168th St. At the 168th St. station, follow the signs to the 1/9 trains, then exit at the turnstiles near the elevators

From Grand Central Station
Take the S train (shuttle) to Times Square, and transfer to the A train (express) to 168th St. At the 168th St. station, follow the signs to the 1/9 trains, then exit at the turnstiles near the elevators and continue by foot.

By Taxi:
Depending on the time of day and where you are, it may be very easy to next to impossible to catch a taxicab. The vacant ones have their top lights on. Tell the cab driver to take you to Columbia University Medical Center, 168th Street and Broadway.

By Car:
If driving to NYC, note that you can face heavy traffic, reckless driving, lack of street parking and expensive parking garage rates. Read street signs carefully to avoid parking tickets (up to $185).

From the North
Take the Cross Bronx Expressway in the direction of the George Washington Bridge. Bear right as you approach the bridge and take the exit for Riverside Drive south.

From the East
Take the Grand Central Parkway or Long Island Expressway west to the Cross Island Parkway north. Cross over the Throgs Neck Bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway in the direction of the George Washington Bridge. Proceed as above.

From the West (NJ)
Take the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) north or I-80 east to the George Washington Bridge. As you cross the bridge, be careful to exit onto Riverside Drive south.

At the CUMC Campus:
From the corner of Broadway and 168th Street, proceed west on 168th Street (from the subway exit, take a left) and walk one block to Fort Washington Ave. There, you will see steps leading up to a tall building called the Hammer Building, 701 West 168th Street. Upon entering, you will be greeted by a guard, to whom you are to give information concerning your visit (what lab you are visiting). Take the elevators to the 12th floor and walk to the right to reach my office, in room 1222. Keep going to reach the laboratory, in room 1216.
